Pharmacy/Engineering Major?

Last year I applied to a whole bunch of schools, playing around with the idea of going into pharmacy. I got a 2+4 program and a 0-6 program (Northeastern). I actually really liked Northeastern, but the University of Rochester appealed to me more when I visited. I had no idea why but I had a gut feeling that I "belonged" here and of course, I went with it. I knew that pharmacy would be hard to get into if I didn't go in right away, but a lot of people said I seemed unsure about pharmacy, and I shouldn't restrict myself to that. My guidance counselor told me from what she could tell, especially with me applying to a large number of schools all over the place, I liked options, and pharmacy would restrict me from exploring it. I told her my concern with getting into pharmacy later and she told me it shouldn't be a problem if I followed on with my high school record.

Now, I'm here, and I'm starting to regret my decision a little. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love it here, but now I'm very concerned about getting into pharmacy school. Up to my junior year, I always considered engineering as my major. Then, I decided I really didn't know. Now, I'm trying to decide whether I should pursue chemical engineering and then pharmacy, which would mean loads of summer school to complete pre-reqs. I've also considered double majoring in music/chem or music/psych. I'm just worried that if I do the engineering route, my gpa might prevent me from getting into pharm school...but I am truly interested in engineering as a back up if pharmacy doesn't work out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :]

Since you love engineering..........I feel that you should finish getting your bachelors in Chem Eng.....If you're already in your Junior year.....You shouldn't put a holt to it now.......you don't want three years to go to waste.......

Also, I think you would be overloading yourself if you double majored.........because if you want to go into pharmacy, there is no need to major in music or psych.....you would just be wasting your time and efforts.......in my opinion...........

The prereqs.....yes......if you don't have room in your schedule.......you need to take courses during the Summer.........but they shouldn't be too hard for you..........Chem Eng major covers a few of the courses.........the others are all basic versions of some of the advanced level courses you have taken.....so these classes should be really easy for you........I would recommend looking up the curriculum of the pharmacy school (s) you would like to apply to.......and see what classes you are missing.........and then formulate a summer schedule from that........you might want to call the admissions department of the college just to confirm that you have all prereqs.......

I would recommend to start studying for PCAT........since it plays a role in pharmacy school acceptance....

Also, do not worry too much about what happened in the past.........even if you made a mistake.....by not going to an 0-6 program..........you cannot change it now.......and stressing over what you did then is not going to change it........you should focus more on the future....cuz its the one thing you can change........

Do not worry too much even if you don't get accepted into pharm school........chem eng is a pretty good career too....the salary is good.......and you said yourself.....that you wouldn't mind doing engineering........

I started a thread posting a similar sort of problem in the engineering section.......If you could give advice on my situation, that would be great...

Here's a link to the thread:

Please do reply...

Thanks.......and hope what I said helped a little....
