Pharmacy Program - Freshman Reflection

I was accepted to the 6 year doctorate program at Rutgers and I have some questions.
I read people drop out or are cut from the program. How do cuts happen?
Also, if you are almost done with your first year in the program, what was it like?

Did you have a social life?
Do you automatically go into the professional program for the final four years or do you need to interview and qualify.
Also - did you get any money for this school? I got merit money for Business and Engineering at Rutgers but none for Pharmacy.
Thanks for any notes on this.

Hey, rising PP2 Pharm student here.

It’s about 4-5 times more common for students to drop out of the program voluntarily than to be dismissed from it. You’ll be dismissed if you have below a 2.8 GPA by the end of your sophomore year.

My first year of the program was pretty easy, almost everything I’ve taken was a repeat of things I already learned while taking AP classes in HS.

Yes, I have a social life. I’m actually pledging a fraternity right now, and very rarely do I have nights where I’m not hanging out with friends until 1-2 AM.

Yes, there is an interview and writing assessment before you gain admission to the professional school. However, almost all students will successfully complete these, as they are merely given as tests to see whether you are competent enough to practice pharmacy in a clinical/community setting or not.

I am a Scarlet Scholarship recipient, the scholarship awards me $3,500 a year pending that I keep a minimum 3.0 GPA.
