Ok, I know I may sound stupid here but why exactly is Rutgers pharmacy "prestigious"? I've looked everywhere online for rankings/statistics and usually, rutgers doesn't show up. The problem is, people keep saying rutgers is number one, top ten, etc. Is that only for the east coast or something? It's basically the only reason I decided to enroll in pharmacy instead of majoring in something else. Someone's gotta know...

I don't know how accurate these stats are, because they are from '98. This list has Rutgers as 27th in the nation, and it has probably gotten better since then.

I also think it helps that Central Jersey is the pharmacy capitol of the world. But are you sure you want to choose a profession based ONLY on the prestige of its program of the school you went to?

All I know is that pharmacists are in demand, making a lot of money, and I've been hearing from everyone I know that it's a great program. I'm just looking for something that'll tell me just how great it is.

Who cares? As long as you get your PharmD and pass the licensure exam, the market doesn't really give two s h i t s about where its from.

If you want to work in industry or move on to another career field, I suggest you go above and beyond on the mathematical portion of the PharmD cirriculum, minor in economics, network, and possibly learn another language.

Just thought about this, thanks to polo's comment (so blame him for this question :) ). If I double major in pharmacy, can I get a BS in something else within 4 years, and a pharm.D after 6?

I know that Rutgers will not actually give you a "BS" in something else if you do actually fulfill the requirements. However, if you were to go on the a Master's program, they may have certain prerequisites that would not be built into the typical PharmD cirriculum. My best advice is to take the trouble to go up to Calc V Engineering since anything engineering related will always require that as a prerequisite.

80% of the pharmaceutical companies are located in NJ--Rutgers is the only pharmacy school in the state, hence its prestige. Rutgers students are hired/given internships like candy.

Rutgers pharmacy rapes. End of story. If your accepted then go. If you dont - your stupid.

Agreed. Look, Rutgers Pharmacy is pretty selective to get into from HS. BUT, it is RIDICULOUSLY selective to transfer into. If accepted, just pick it. If you decide to change your major later, that's fine. But if you don't pick it and you decide you want pharmacy later...tough luck.
