Hey i was just lookin for some more info on the 6 year pharmD program. i got condicional acceptance and ive read the web site a 1000 times and i was wondering if anyone knows more about it (how hard it is, how many kids stay on course, is it good in comparison to other schools)

thanks in advance

Pitt’s School of Pharmacy is one of the best in the nation, tied for #19 with the University of Kansas (according to U.S. News at [Rankings - Pharmacy - Graduate Schools - Education - US News and World Report](http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-pharmacy-schools/rankings)). The first vaccine that cured polio was developed at Pitt, which really is a huge accomplishment. The School of Pharmacy is mainly located in Salk Hall, and the building looks amazingly epic.

I have a question for you now. What does conditional acceptance mean? Did you apply to Pitt after high school, and now you are accepted into their Pharmacy School if you keep your GPA high to a certain point? I’d love to know about the details because I’m very interested in pharmacy and possibly going to Pitt.

okay thanks man. but yea if your definately interested in pharmacy when you’re applying to Pitt, there is a spot on the app to specifically select pre-pharmacy program. they consider you if you have at least around a 650 on math and reading or 29 ACT…i can’t remember for sure but APPLY EARLY! I got a 31 ACT, 4.0 in highschool, rank 13/1025 and applied in september and was notified of conditional acceptance in November (and later an academic scholarship for 2k/year for 4 years). the program is very limited in students it accepts so even if you dont have great stats apply early because i know someone who got it w/ only decent test scores. but conditional acceptance just means you’re eligible for the 6 year pharm program, which you’ll get a doctorate in, as long as you maintain a 3.5 gpa throughout and get a decent standardized test score of the test i cant remember the name of right now haha. but cond accept basically means you don’t have to reapply to get into the program later on when it is even more competitive and applicants have to complete interviews/write essays etc.

That sounds just what I’m looking for. Just curious, what extracurricular activities did you participate in during high school?

umm varsity soccer, club soccer, key club member, national honor society officer, tutor students new to our school that speak little english (most just moved from foreign countries), volunteer at special olympics each year held at school, meals on wheels food deliverer…regarding courses if you’re interested all honors sciences (physics, chem, bio, advanced bio, genetics/embryology) and for math everything up to ap calc ab which im in right now and isnt bad at all, ap spanish, ap us and world histories, ap us gov, ap comparative politics, ap english literature

Cool. I’m deciding on what I want to major in during college, and I’m seriously considering pharmacy. What interested you in pharmacy?

oh my bad i didnt see your last post but ive always been good at math/science and like science a lot so i knew i wanted to go into a field pertaining to medicine. i considered pre-med route but it looked far too time consuming, challenging, and and expensive so i figured i’d just do pharmacy instead haha. plus it pays pretty well (not to sound shallow or anything). i think the avg salary is like 100k a year.

Sorry to bump this, I just had a quick question for tfeduardo12-- where did you hear that the cond. accepted students don’t have to do interviews/essays? I’ve been looking all over the pitt website and the pharm website says:

To exercise the conditional admission, all applicants, must:

* interview as a part of the PharmD application process
- take the Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT)
- complete the PharmCAS application by deadline
- complete the Supplemental Application by deadline

so I don’t really see a difference between open and conditional acceptance…I got accepted to the program too and am also deciding between pharm and pre-med so I’m curious.

Thanks.

oh my bad yea that was bad info by me. i think that as long as you keep the gpa and not completely bomb the pcat, applications and interview then your in. i think whereas non-cond accepted applicants have to build up their resume, stand out as best they can and compete against many other non-cond applicants, the cond accepted applicants have a much easier ride as long as they meet the standard requirements. at least, thats my take now.

tfeduardo12 is right in that last post. Students with conditional guarantees and students without guarantees both have to go through the same process, but those with guarantees are automatically in as long as they have the required GPA and don’t bomb the PCAT and interview (thus, a CONDITIONAL guarantee). Ice, if you’re not sure (pharm vs premed), you could follow the pre-pharm track for your first two years and then decide whether to go to pharmacy school or go premed.
