Pharmacy School Prerequisites

I have been having trouble really figuring out if the classes I am planning to take would cover all of the prerequisites for most pharmacy Schools. My planned course schedule would allow me to graduate with both a degree in Biochemistry and one in Genetics with a minor in French in 4 years but I would not have room really for anymore than the the classes I already have listed. Does anyone think this will satisfy all of the requirements? thanks for any help.

Without researching the schools on your radar, it’s really not possible to tell. Some schools, for example, require a full year of a college entry level biology course (AP not accepted). Some schools require a religion class, macro or micro economics, or public speaking classes. It looks like you’ve done a lot of research though, and I did see the classes that my kid took as prereqs.

My only question is why you would put yourself through this? I guessed that you want a 4+3 pharmacy school for some reason, instead of a 2+4 or 0-6 program. That can be a much more expensive track, and you risk a poorer GPA by taking such an intense schedule. Presumably you also need to have some time to study for the PCAT and get volunteering, activities and work experience in there too. It looks as if you might really be trying out for premed, with pharmacy as a backup. Nothing wrong with trying to do that, of course. If you want pharmacy, there are easier ways to get there.

Something to keep in mind is that college science classes are sometimes graded on curves, and grading for science majors tends to be lower than many successful high school students are used to seeing. Work loads are heavy, and sometimes the classes that you’d think would be easy end up requiring a lot more work than expected. You are outlining an extremely heavy schedule for yourself, and you might want to look at whether you can take some credits over the summer or at a community college.

Just my opinion though. Good luck, and congratulations on having so much focus.

Asked my kid what he thought of your course list. He noted that you’re also missing basic bio and chem 101/102 and statistics. Again, you’ll have to check whether pharmacy schools accept AP in lieu of college courses – his school did not accept AP classes for pharmacy prereqs.
