How good is Rutgers School of Pharmacy? Can I do better? I live in New York, but I'm not really set on going to ST. John's U pharmacy or anything in a rural environment. I've gotten accepted into Rutgers, but I don't know where I'll be practicing pharmacy. Should I go? or should I try and research possibly stronger programs? Thanks for the advice!

RUTgers pharmacy is like the best 6-yr pharm d. program in the northeastern area. it totally ALOT better than st. john, long island, or USP pharmacy schoools. well, im going to RU pharmacy. good luck deciding...lemme know =]

I agree, Rutgers Pharmacy is good. A friend of mine wants to be a pharmacist and she applied there... trying to think of where else she applied.

She also applied to Purdue, and Duquense (pronounced Ducane, I know I spelled it wrong - it's in Pittsburg) and UConn, I believe. I know she applied to a lot more but I can't remember.

Hope that helps. ^^

I applied to University of Rhode Island's pharmacy program which is very strong. I also applied to Northeastern University's program

Rutgers is excellent. Also check out University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and the University of Pittsburgh.

UConn has an amazing Pharmacy program. Their new building is unbelievable!

What about SUNY Buffalo?

whats the best 6 year program in the south (North Carolina area). I know UNC-Chapel hill is prestigious but it is very selective and its a 2+4 year program. The 4 year pharmD part only selects about 150 each year.

Less competitive Pharmacy programs in NC would be at Campbell University and Wingate University.

is campbell as good as RU Pharmacy? Would i be a good idea to transfer to Campbell from Chapel Hill pre-pharm, if i get into UNC-Ch. Or should i get a bachelors from UNC before doing pharmd at Campell or RU (maybe).

leetx, I don't know the answers to your questions. I'm sure you could call the pharmacy school at Campbell and ask about transferring etc. I know one student from our town who went to NCSU for 2 years and then transferred to Wingate and finished her bachelors ( in one year due to lots of AP credit) and was then accepted to their Pharm. sch.

If you want to be a drug store pharmacist, it doesn't really matter what school you go to as long as you get certified.

what advantages will a pharmD from UNC over Rutgers provide me if not in retail. And Rutgers over Campbell and so forth?

I know someone who went through Duquesne's pharmacy program and loved it

I believe Wingate's pharmacy school is very selective. I remember reading they had 1,300 applicants for a 75 seat 1st year class last year. They were recently recognized by the national pharmacy organization for their innovative teaching. The 1st year students are required to do voluntary service in hospital pharmacies, clinics for the homeless, nursing homes, etc.
