is it smart to go for pharmacy at this time? i am a high school sophomore

Are you interested in what pharmacists do or are you after a fat starting paycheck?

If you find the work interesting, it is a very attractive profession for women who at some point wish to go part time to be at home with their kids.

@MrMom62 both. i do enjoy science, however, i want to give my kids a good life and give them things that i never had. the big starting paycheck is a big part of it though. i would love to work part time and be able to take care of my children.

Keep an eye on the projected surplus of pharmacists before you commit to 6- 8 years of schooling. Starting salaries are high, but I’m not convinced that we won’t be seeing stagnation/decreases as the surplus continues to increase. And in my area, very few pharmacists have been allowed to go part time with any guarantee of hours. At several points last year they were looking for people to take time off to give some of the part timers hours. It can be a good career, just make sure it’s really what you want. Maybe become a technician to give you an idea of what the job entails.
