should i apply to 6 year pharmacy programs? what are the pros and cons to it? does it affect the salary, competiveness, etc?

All that matters is that you come out with a Pharm D degree. Which school are you looking at?

you need a pharm D degree. AFter that, nobody cares where you came from or how you got your degree (6 years or 8 years). Your salary is basically set and may vary depending on the hours you wanna work and sometimes where you work.

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say that nobody care at all about where you came from. For example, many of the most prestigious PharmD programs, like UCSF, do not run 6-year programs, but instead only run standard 4-year programs and where something like over 95% of their admittees have at least bachelor's degrees. So by taking a 6-year program, you are basically giving up on the possibility to go to one of these top PharmD programs. Graduating from one of these programs will help you to get the more desirable pharmacy positions.

^ i definitely agree, there are some fields of pharmacy where prestige does matter. but a vast majority of pharmacy school grads want to work as pharmacists in big stores like CVS or Walgreens. Most also aspire to own their own pharmacy. And from what I see in my own family, it really doesn't matter where you get ur degree from.
