Hey, I have no idea where I should go for a 6 year Pharm.D program.

I got into:

University of Rhode Island
Massachusetts College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences
Albany College of Pharmacy
St. John's University
Long Island University

Which school should I go to? Also, it might come down to a choice between LIU and St. John's. Which one is better for pharmacy?

I seriously have no clue about anything
Thanks

In Pittsburgh, Univ. of Pittsburgh and Duquesne both have 6 year PharmD programs, and I am not really familiar with the schools you mentioned. I would select a school associated with a good medical center, as you will get better experiences in your clinical classes. For example, Pitt is associated with the UPMC (univ of Pgh medical center) and Duquesne is associated with Mercy Hospital. Since pharmacists are licensed by state exam and required to complete yearly continuing education programs to maintain that license, I think all of the schools would have to teach a very similar body of material.

If the pharmacy school is at a university that does alot of research, students frequently can get jobs working for a professor in his lab. Very good experience if you are interested in drug development.

The other advantage to going to a school in a city or to one associated with a big medical center is the availability of jobs. You will have to "intern" for some number of hours and the pharmacy school will assign you to those places. But the majority of the students in Pgh work in a pharmacy job on their own, too. NY is probably the same. The more you work, the easier the licensure exam will be.

Also, consider Philadelphia College of Sciences. It is located in the University City area of Philadelphia (Penn, Drexel) vibrant college community within walking distance. They also have some unique programs like business aspect of Pharmacology. This college used to be called Phildelphia College of Pharmacology but changed it as there are so many new advanced medical training areas. Also, Philly is a pretty big student/college town, many medical schools, etc. If you are difinite interestd in Pharmacology check them out. We considered them briefly but son is going for computer engineering. I asked them point blank could my son succeed there with a 1300 sat (old sat) and they answered point blank, yes.
