Phase II Registration

Hello there!

Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to go to FASET (orientation), so I couldn't sign up for classes early. So for Phase II, are there new classes that open up, or the class capacities increase? I can't register until the 19th, and all of the classes are closed to registration.
Do you know if they open up seats for those who didn't go to FASET?

Thank you in advance!

Yes they do. They reserve classes for each phase so if you didn’t get what you wanted during the first phase there’s a chance it will be open during phase II. Once your time ticket is up you can schedule for classes up until phase II registration ends.

That’s not entirely correct. For freshman classes, they reserve portions for each FASET section within Phase 1 (so if you go to the last FASET section, there are still seats available). However, in general there are no new seats opened up for Phase 2 vs. Phase 1.

Hah, thanks for reminding me I’m not registered yet this semester.

Thanks guys, looks like I’ll have to request some overrides :/. Do you guys happen to know how long it takes to process Registration Override requests?

It’s processed by the department, so that depends on how quickly that department’s academic adviser works (and how many overrides are requested this semester). In general, don’t count on them. Fill your schedule with other classes, request overrides, and if they give you one be happy.

Did you contact Tech about registration? If they knew you wouldn’t attend FASET, I’m surprised they didn’t just put you in with the last FASET group for Phase I registration.

I contacted the registrar’s office to ask them about class availability and they only reserve seats for FASET students like you said earlier.

and about the grouping me with FASET 6, I didn’t know they did that so I’ll try to contact them today. Thanks a bunch!

I don’t know if they do it, either, but it makes sense. They shouldn’t penalize students for not attending an optional program. I could easily see a case where missing Phase I as an entering freshman could delay graduation.

If you can’t make it work, we can try to help you plan a schedule that won’t delay graduation. Just post your major and any incoming credits you have (from AP, IB, dual enrollment, etc).

I called them today and was told I could go to FASET 6 as a “Walk-in”, but I’ll have to pay the $180 fee that every FASET attendee has to pay. Thanks for all the help!
I’ll make sure to ask if I have any questions about scheduling.

Sorry to hear that. It’s not really fair to penalize you so heavily for not attending an optional event. But you’ll soon find that it’s not the only unfair situation you’ll run into during your college career (regardless of college - it’s a consequence of large organizations with tens of thousands of students making sweeping rules based on generalized situations).
