PhD chemical, been working for the past few years

Hey guys,

So I graduated with a degree in chemical engineering a few years ago, had a gpa of 3.17. I've been working as a nuclear engineer on submarines ever since. My job has consisted of about an additional year in the classroom and me passing a huge 8 hour exam a little bit ago. In a couple of months I will be qualified in a pretty respected position.

I have been considering going back to school and would like to go for a PhD in chemical or biomedical. Will my work experience help out my low ugrad gpa and what are my chances of getting into some decent PhD programs? I'm thinking Brown would be up there if I could have my pick. I definitely plan on study hard and doing well on the GRE to but I'm worried that my ugrad gpa won't be enough so what are your thoughts?

I would aim for a better school. Brown is a great school overall but not that known for chemical engineering.

Thanks, so I’d have a decent shot at getting into some good grad programs? I was recentley thinking about just going for a PhD in nuclear instead of chemical. Does anybody know if that would be an option. My job is essentially like getting a masters in nuclear and I’m government qualified in a nuclear engineering position where I’ve passed many milestones. Thoughts please?
