PHD finance help, Thank you :)

Hello I am Sarah I am currently a junior at the university of Maryland college park. I am majoring in pure Math and Quantitative Economics. So far i have been taking the toughest math classes a math major can take at this school. I am a currently in the schools official honors program, in addition to the the departmental honor programs in the math department and economics department (i will also be admittied to the Phi Beta Kappa next semester). For next year i will be writing 2 undergraduate thesis papers both in math and economics for my senior year. So far i have taken the most challanging and mathematical economics classes you can find in both departments and my current overall GPA is a 3.71 (Will be changed hopefully disputing a grade with a teacher, so wish me luck ) My overall Math GPA is a 3.9 and as well with Economics.

I was recently informed about a PHD program in finance. Up until this point my hopes have been to go receive my PHD in economics. How Close is the subject of finance to economics. How competitive would i be for a PHD program in finance. Would i have to take the GRE's or GMAT? and if its GMAT can i substitute it for GRE scores??? How big is the field, is the applicant pool very compeitive?? How much is math stressed, because in economics its extremely important. Also whats the difference between a MBA in finance (well i guess whats an MBA) and a PHD in finance. Is an MBA = bachelors????

Thank you for all the help you guys are the best. :)

sorry last question i want to emphasize. How competitive are PHD programs in finance, what is the average GPA and GRE/GMAT scores for entrents???

MBA is masters in business administration.

You have to do the GMAT for the MBA and PhD.

By your grades I do not see you having any problem with the GMAT or getting into a PhD program.

You are lucky. Math and Econ are highly recommended for a PhD in finance.

The program has advance stat classes and a lot of econ classes.

In my university you have to have a masters degree for the PhD. Some schools allow you to do the PhD with a bachelors but you have to complete the master degree units.

Wharton Doctoral Programs: Finance

I'm sorry but what jobs do PhDs in Finance offer? And do you do it in conjuction with an MBA or separately? Because I'd like to join Wall Street so would this be appropriate? So sorry, I'm very ignorant and I saw the graduate placement for Wharton's finance PhD and most went to university as opposed to the private sector...

For Wall Street what are some good PhDs?

PhD in finance looks really good for Wallstreet.

They are saying on this site that hard science and math majors do well in wallstreet. You should also have at least a MBA with finance/accounting background or JD.
