Phd in BME or Materials Engineering?

Hi all,

I am a new member looking to apply for graduate school (PhD) in either of BME or Materials Engineering. I did my undergrad in BME (Class of 2008) from a not so well known state school in NYC. My GPA was 3.87. I did over 1 year of Research and I am a co-author on a paper that was more towards Medicinal Chemistry.

After graduation, I have worked in the R & D department of a top Medical device company in the field of Biodegradable Polymers. I would like to do my PhD in Biomaterials/Tissue Engineering. Would you suggest a BME PhD because of my undegrad degree? or a Materials Engineering PhD because of my work experience?

Also, who should I get my letters of rec from? I am planning to get one from my research advisor who I have a co-publication with. Should I get one from my current supervisor (fab writer and has a PhD in Chemical Engineering) and my previous boss, a Director who has a PhD in Materials and knows some high profile people probably due to his work related contacts.

Tissue engineering and biomaterials sound more like bioengineering to me… (but I’m not even an bioengineering or materials science major)
