I'm a senior in high school and intend on double majoring in EE and mathematics starting in the fall of 2014. After undergraduate, I plan on either doing a master's and then a Phd or just going straight for a Phd after this. My main goal is to go into research in EE. Are there a lot of jobs for Research Electrical Engineers out there? Or should I just try and stick with a master's?

In the narrow niche of EE that I work in, industrial research job opportunities for PhDs are pretty good these days. (For those whose PhD topic is closely related to the area.)

It is generally harder for those with an MS EE to get research positions than those with a PhD. Often job listings say MS required, PhD preferred. But MS EEs are probably generally have an easier time finding non-research engineering job opportunities than PhDs, who may be perceived as overqualified for jobs that don’t require/prefer a PhD.
