I love history and want to make a career out of it. However, I don't want to teach high school and would prefer not to teach college either. I also don't want to work an office job. I am planning on getting a PhD in some form of history (probably European, not sure). Is there any kind of career that fits these requirements?

It depends. What time period of European history are you interested in? If it is early history, you could look into archaeology. Also, a public history degree will prepare you for museum work (check the program carefully to make sure they provide ample internships and training for this specifically, and not just archives). Modern history could open the door to nonprofit orgs, the UN, government work (esp. the state dept.), and a host of other jobs.

History is a good foundation for library science, if you like research.
