If you are accepted into a JD/PhD program, do you get a tuition waver for the JD portion of the program? I am entering a MS program in Chemistry for the fall (w/ full funding), and have definate plans on pursuing my PhD immediately after. In addition to having interest in Chemistry, I am really interested in Patent/IP law.

In every such program I have seen, the PhD is funded but the JD is not. There are exceptions to this - a handful of JD students get scholarships, and I do not think you would be barred from such if you were competitive, but it will not be automatic.

What are some examples of a Ph.D/JD program?

I’ve only heard of Northwestern (NU).

Sakky FTW!!

In JD/PhD programs, you are still responsible for tuition costs in the JD program. You won’t pay full-price like regular JD students but the tuition won’t be waived. In some ways, you are saving money because because some JD/PhD programs are setup where it takes six years (instead of 8-9 years separately) to complete the dual-degree.
