PhD Physics

Hello.

Does anyone know when Rice PhD Physics acceptances will be released?

Also how selective is it?

Thank you!!

In my experience, all physics PhD programs are very competitive. Decisions are not released en masse the way they are with UG admissions. You might check some Physics forums for more message boards about physics programs specifically.

Thank you.

I know of a grad student that’s still waiting to hear from Rice Admissions for grad school. It seems awful Late? Decisions are due back April 15th - right?? He hasn’t been notified at all yet. Really interesting. Not sure what that means? Is it like an internal wait list? Very odd!

Check out some grad school forums - they usually list the dates that decisions come out.

Well this is very interesting! Our friend who applied for a Masters in Physics still hasn’t heard a peep from Rice Admissions. The deadline for students accepting is April 15th. I find it very rude and disgraceful that Rice doesn’t have the curtesy to let the applicants know if they’ve been accepted, waitlisted or even rejected. Afterall each applicant has spent hours on the application and paid a fee and applied on time. This is sad and truly disappointing.

Have you found the gradcafe website? They have a section where people enter where they’ve heard from and what their decisions were that is searchable. Those programs often accept in waves, and don’t notify everyone until they have a full cohort who have accepted offers. Odds are fairly slim at this point, though. My D had a couple PhD programs and one master’s program who hadn’t notified by now, and all were rejections in the end.

There is also a website devoted to physics GRE prep and grad school apps, but I can’t remember the name and am not at my computer. Lots of physics PhD students post their results out there, so you can kind of track there, too.

Update. Today is April 24th and Rice still hasn’t replied. It’s is after the April 15th deadline and he hasn’t been notified at all. Disgraceful! I’m rather surprised Rice doesn’t have the decency to at least send a rejection letter. Sad.

I would think twice about applying to Rice. After all the time and efforts and money spent, no reply. He’s from a top 20 US News ranking university and graduated 2nd in his class. Very disrespectful.

Has the applicant followed up with the Office of Graduate Programs/Physics Department by phone or otherwise to see if something fell through the cracks? The site says applicants are notified by email. Maybe the email was sent to an improper address, went to SPAM etc. http://physics.rice.edu/Content.aspx?id=58
