Hey guys, I know no one can say anything definitively, but I go to a "Southern Ivy" school, am in the honors program, have a 4.0 GPA, will have good letters of recommendation, and some research experience. Unfortunately, I did not do so hot on the GRE -- 166 Verbal / 158 Quant and 6 on analytical writing. Will my math score really lower my chances getting into a top 10 or 20 program in political science (American government and politics)? Should I consider retaking the GRE??

Quant score only matters for engineering/comp sci/physics/etc. It is super competitive in for those fields, but for a social science it doesn’t really matter. Your GPA, research experience/writing sample, and letters of rec will matter much much more. You have a very solid profile.

I think you’ll be fine. Your quant score is only a little lower than mine and your verbal is better. I had 3.97, good letters, and research experience. Had my choice of one top 15 and two top 30s.

This headline is confusing. I was hoping it’d be a list of the best grad programs in pol sci. We have rankings for college, but not grad school.

In any case, since you’re attending a Southern Ivy, why not stay there? It’s not like you’re attending a terrible school…
