PhD Program in the Medical Robotics Field

Hi Everyone,

I'm going to start my Master's in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto this September, in the medical robotics field.

I graduated with a 3.1 GPA from a tough undergrad engineering program (EngSci, BioMed) at U of T. I've averaged around a 3.7-3.8 in my last 3 semesters. I havent written my GRE's, but plan to write them this summer. I am planning to pursue my PhD in the US after. I did my honors thesis with an MD/PhD in the medical robotics field in my 4th year of undergrad, and have also worked at Hopkins in a past summer, resulting in 2 first author publications.

So far, a Robotics PhD at Carnegie Mellon or BME PhD and Hopkins seem to attract me the most. Washington, Columbia, Stanford, and Berkeley are also up there. I'm kinda reluctant to pursue a PhD in CS as Im not confident in my skill set being appropriate for the field.

I'm not sure what my chances are at these schools, and would appreciate some feedback. Also, what are my chances at Med school if I can get sufficient clinical (surgery related, shadowing) and research experience from my Master's work? Is there anything that I could do to strengthen my application?

Thanks a lot for the help!
