Coming in as a PhD student, and am trying to decide if I want to live in Waltham.
On one hand it would be nice to be super close to campus since I’ll be there 4 mornings a week. On the other hand, is it so boring that I will die? How often do people find themselves in the city if they live in Waltham? Does anyone regret choosing to live there?
First of all, congratulations in advance! A PhD is big news for a lowly, soon-to-be undergrad like me.
I should preface this by saying that I have never lived in Waltham (or MA for that matter) . Every nugget of wisdom I will attempt to impart unto you is from my Brandeis tour only. I will say, Waltham struck me as fairly suburban. The good news is, Boston is very close. If you have reliable transportation and/or a train pass, you will never be bored. Essentially, you will never be in the epicenter of culture and intellectual life, but you will be right outside it. If money is a factor, living in Waltham will likely be cheaper. I wish I could give you a little more to go on, but that is really all I can say with my limited knowledge.
