PhiDE is a premedical/medical fraternity. My university is a colony chapter, and I'm so excited for it to get started. Does anyone else have experience with this organization?

Yes! I love it at my school. Best premed advice and support group ever. Everyone is very laid back and more into supporting eachother than cutting each other down to get ahead. Good luck with your colony! :)

I’d suggest not being in a frat w/ a bunch of premeds. You’ll have plenty of classes w/ 'em. Live with other people. You’ll have plenty of time to get to know premeds (and quite possibly more than enough to get to hate premeds) as it is. Being well-rounded includes meeting people outside of the “hoping for medicine” crowd.

A premed fraternity?

Sounds about as fun as sleeping on a bed of thumbtacks.

Should I demonstrate how lame premeds are and correct you (thumbtacks aren’t bad to sleep on as long as you don’t try and stand up on them…j/k j/k)? Or should I simply state how heartily I agree with you?!

No, but seriously OP… GS said what I was thinking… lol… tho’ what he really meant was it would be about equivalent to JUMPING into a bed of thumbtacks! OUCH!!!

I have such mixed opinions on PhiDE. While it sounds like a great support system, the pledging process and all looks so time consuming. A good friend of mine pledged, and his grades suffered for it. All this work to get into medical school, perhaps joining this frat to get into medical school and yet your grades suffer for it? Seems kind of contradictory to me.

Well then allow me to one up your lameness with some of my own!

You see, you’re assuming that the thumbtacks are all pointy-end up and that there are enough of them such that if you were to lie on them, your weight would be evenly distributed and no skin would be punctured.

What you fail to take into account is that it might just as easily be an unorganized pile of thumbtacks, or that they might be pointy-end up but there are sufficiently few so that lying on them would be quite unpleasant.

ha most premeds are cut-throat and thumbtack-like some can be fun… :)… sometimes?
