Phi Eta Sigma

Hi,

Is anyone in Phi Eta Sigma? From what I understand it's a freshmen honor society. If you join are there large time obligations? My son just got an invitation letter, but there wasn't much info.

Also, the parents are invited to the initiation banquet. Do they typically go?

thanks!

my daughter got the invite last year - the banquet is on Parents weekend - Sunday evening. Parents are definantly invited. It was too late for us to stay we needed to head home. My daughter did not go… I wanted her to join - get the pin & certificate so she could add the honor onto her resume. There was a free Tshirt to go along with it as well. My daughter did go to the first meeting - not sure she has gone back. The Tshirt said something to the effect of Phi Eta Sigma - making friends for smart kids - don’t quote me on that - but it was close. She put the Tshirt away - she doesnt need a club to make friends and would not be caught in that T.
I know a couple other kids who were invited to join - they did, but also just joined to have their name on record. The kids I know who were invited to join sure don’t need help making friends - they are all a big part of Texas A&M University.
In order to get teh Phi Eta Sigma honor cord at graduation you do have to attend meetings and do a few of the activities - but once a member always a member.

Wow, kind of a strange slogan for an honor/service society. The website was unclear. They provide free tutoring. I wasn’t sure if that was optional or mandatory. My son is having a fairly light semester, but his next fall will be harsh. He’s already involved in several intramural sports and two clubs. He also applied to be a Fish Camp counselor which I think is an ongoing obligation should he get it.

I will pass along your info. What activities did you think were worthwhile for parent weekend? We aren’t planning to attend, but we could easily drive up for a day if there was a reason.

Thanks!

We went to the activities offered by the College of Architecture. We did not attend anythng else.
