I'm currently in the application process for the UC system, and I had a question concerning checking involvement in extra curriculars. I am currently a member of Phi Theta Kappa, but I havent been able to attend a single meeting (even the make-up ones) because I would have class during those times for the past year. However, I was advised both by the transfer counselor and the honors coordinator at my school to list it anyway, even though I had only participated in the orientation meetings as well as the induction ceremony.

So, in order to list this extra curricular, I had to put the minimum amount of hours allowed in order to list it as an extra curricular on the online application, which is one hour. What I'm wondering is if they check your actual amount of participation in the group since I couldn't list that I was an inactive member? If so, will it create problems, even though two staff members from my community college recommended that I list that anyway?

This is kind of creeping me out since I have a 3.95, work as a tutor as well as have a more than part time job with all pre-reqs completed, and if I'm denied entrance because of bad advice from two counselors, it would disastrous, and kind of dumb.

no, they definitley wouldn't check, they don't have time for that. couldnt you list it as an award/honor instead of an activity anyway? its based on gpa right?

halansir, no worries...the UCz are trusting the transfer students...they do not check it...admission officers don't put much weight on ECz. I have worst crappy EC from HS, even more crappy EC from college. I listed them on my app but ucd, ucsb, ucsc still accepted me. I don't think they care for transfer students. Though, they send checking requests to a few fresh students.

well that is good. Im shooting for ucla (and pretty sure ill get in because everone applies for english, but NEVER for american lit) and I would be dumbfounded that they didn't accept me over something so trivial.

haha same here I am a member and they sent me some gay pin and a product catalog....75 dollars for this crap...anyway I have never been to a single meeting nor do I plan to...
