...soooooo. about these organizations - i know it's recommended to join them, for volunteer opps and whatnot, but. i'm in my second year, doing apps NOW. should i join, or would it just not really have any impact in the process?

the other concern is the membership fee. i know it's not a lot - relatively - but for reasons i do not want to disclose, i'm rather frugal with my money. that and i'm worried i might end up paying for membership that i won't have much time for ANYHOW.

thanks in advance.

Join PTK for the scholarship opportunities and the social/community aspect of the group. It will not boost your chances for transfer.

Note: As is normal with these types of threads, there will undoubtedly be posters who will make some great claims about PTK (e.g. it will definitely help you transfer, get you into a specific university, etc.). Many times they will profess to be chapter officers, professors, or college administrators. They will usually be new posters. Note the number of posts and their join date information. If the post number is low or they have only recently joined, they are most likely public relations for PTK who regularly ■■■■■ the boards.

I have nothing against PTK. It is a fine organization. I became a member a few years ago. Membership just isn’t a factor in the admissions process (unless you take up an officer role - which you can’t as you are already a sophomore). Having a high GPA (one above the PTK minimum requirement) is usually good enough depending on the institution and major you’re looking to transfer into.
