lol I saw that mail and it was trashed immediately.

Why would you trash it? I will join any academic honors society that I get invited to, how can that hurt?

PTK is legit.
Don't be quick to judge like green here before you know all the facts.

PTK gives scholarships to students transferring from a CC to certain universities (a lot of them), however, I don't know if they give scholarships to transfer students in UCs. You should check that in their site. If they don't, don't bother joining.

thanks guys, i think ill join it because like you said...cant hurt!

I just wanted to put it on my uc app just to give myself any extra boost lol ...is it too late to add it in?

i dunno dudes. ptk is like kinda sketch. at least at my school it is.

its a dirty scam. you can volunteer with it but few do. most scholarships they offer are to obscure private schools. save your money......trust me.

I don't know about you guys, but PTK is like National Honors Society at my school where 5000 people join and it's really meaningless.

chunk I guess Cornell is an obscure private school.

yo nj im sorry dawg

http://www.cornellcollege.edu/

it is. and that IS a cornell that they offer the scholarship to.

i was looking that up, and thats STRAIGHT sketch-but you're right, they've got cornell U and upenn GAS. still. look at the rest of the list.

i really dont understand why they would need you to pay 75 dollars just to be admitted and why they cater to 2-years; the financial alternative for four years. that's just straight ridiculous. and you know what green, ptk is the 2-year equivalent of NHS.

phi BETA kappa is mad respect, but phi theta i think is becoming more and more of a joke.

Yeah I got offered a scholarships (a decent one) from Tulane because of PTK.

not at all. hence the word "most".

PTK is great if you're transfering to the private colleges.

Man, a significant amount of you do not know much about PTK. PTK is the most respected Honors program for Community and 2-year colleges. Joining it should be a priority if you plan on transferring. By joining PTK, you are able to have verification of it on your college transcript and automatically nominated into National Dean's List. So why not join the world's largest association of community college honor students.

Here's a link for all the schools that gives PTK scholarships: http://scholarships.ptk.org/schol_dir.htm
Choose a state and just sign in as a guest on the next screen.
It's kind of a hassle to find it in their site so I wanted to post it for all you skeptics.

i spent couplr yrs at a Univ, did okay the 1st couple sems, had some issues and ended up on probation

Now at a CCC for 5 sems, doing well, also offered that PTK stuff..didnt really care and ignored it...but when i transfer back to a Univ, wil lthey notice the improvement?

Yeah that's real smart dawg, nice way to provide us some insight into the orgnaization by stating the propoganda already emblazoned onto thier flyers and handouts. What the hell is ''by joining ptk you are able to have verification on it on your college transcript"-are you kidding me? by joining an organization you can verify you joined the organization? AUTO-NOMINATION onto a dean's list? everyone knows national dean's list is a who's who. "So why not join the worlds largestblablablabullsh"

great, let's all join an organization where 'honors' students can come together-and..what?

and WHAT? i mean, WHAT would they do? what resources do they provide? what opportunities, what scholarships? Hold up, I can answer this one, and i'll answer it bluntly. Nobody but 'national student leadership' wins the 'prestigious scholarships' Man, screw this prestige bull-its not even prestigious. NJCC, i've looked at that list. I've also looked at the winners. THE ONLY THING GOOD ABOUT THE WHOLE THING IS THIS ''All-American team" of which you need to -actually show- how you have contributed to ptk to be competitive. I'll give semi-credit to it, as non-ptk students can be nominated as well, and the majority of winners are nontraditional students. That's respectable.Resources? the resources they provide are ZERO-the activities the students do to raise money are done by the students solely independent of the organization, and could be done better by any other club.

No, seriously, PTK is not prestigious. it's not elite, its not selective, and getting inducted is just a joke. if this really was prestigious, they'd scrap the mandatory fees associated with the organization and be serious about thier students; unfortunately, this is still just a cheap ripoff of wannabe phi beta kappa kids. man, this makes me sick. let this thread die.

"this is still just a cheap ripoff of wannabe phi beta kappa kids. man, this makes me sick. let this thread die."

damn. someone's really...just...wow haha

i dont recall correctly, but if you join ptk, you're automatically in the 4 year university's phi BETA kappa when you transfer. i'm gonna look into that during the week.

ptk is one of those "dime a dozen" application fillers. a lot of the qualified applicants have that on their app: "member of phi theta kappa," so just being a member is most likely not going to set you apart from the rest unless you have a leadership position in it, and leadership position in any range of things besides that organization is great too.

my opinion stands. ptk is dirty.
