Phillips Academy Andover Housing

Hello,

I just received a housing questionnaire from Andover. I would appreciate recommendations on the best houses for boys. A single room is also the best choice for me, is a single usually guaranteed? Are there anyways to procure a single?

Thanks a lot!

Hey! I’m going to Andover next year as well. I was wondering in which region you live because I haven’t gotten my card yet.

There are a lot of singles for 9th grade boys - Rockwell is all singles, but the smaller dorms in Abbott have some too. Not many singles for 10th grade boys though.

Another thing to consider: Proximity to main campus, especially Commons. The walk in the middle of winter will take more out of you than you know. I would recommend something in the quads(Rockwell) if you don;t mind the big dorm atmosphere. If you wanted a smaller house-like atmosphere you could put in for French House or America House, or one of the dorms in Abbott cluster. The walk from French is sort of long but not too bad, but the walk from America House is legendarily long. At least these two are closer to downtown. Abbott cluster has a sort of tucked back in the woods feel, and it is pretty close to the academic buildings

Hi. Does anyone have info. regarding Draper Cottage (in Abbot Cluster)? How many boys are in the house in total? Are they mixed grades? Any pros/ cons to share? Thanks.

9th grade dorms house 9th graders only. All other dorms are mixed grades. IIRC, Draper houses 7 boys.

Thanks @skieurope. Do you know how many kids are in Newman House?

Most of the small houses are within that range @NYmom123 . I don’t remember the exact number.

Draper is pretty far from everything, as it is located behind the music building(Graves hall). It is a bit closer to downtown than most dorms, but is quite a walk to the academic buildings and especially to the athletic facilities. It is a pretty small dorm, and the kids from Draper pretty much stuck together at some level for the entirety of their time at Andover, so it is certainly good for bonding with classmates.

May I please get information on Double Brick?

My son just got assigned to Draper Cottage in Abbott cluster. Can I get some information about this dorm? Would be really appreciated.

Thank you for the info, can you guys shed some light on the Martha Bailey dorm? @skieurope @MABlue

Isham Dorm?

Who’s Martha Bailey? It’s Bertha Bailey

Isham and Double Brick are girls’ dorms, so I’m going to say that I have no firsthand knowledge of the individual rooms.

Guys, they’re dorms. You sleep there, maybe study there. Whatever dorm you are in is the absolutely best dorm on campus. Whatever cluster you are in the best one on campus. Relax and enjoy.

@NYMom123 Newman had five boys last year. It was exclusively new lowers. It’s close to the school buildings, so that’s good. The house counselor is pretty lenient.

@Surfer7 Double Brick is an 18-girl freshman dorm. It’s a bit far from the school buildings, but it’s honestly not that bad. The girls who lived there last year were very close.

@acoolperson Isham used to be the medical building and it was also a dorm of 18 girls. Now that there is a new medical building, Isham was completely redone. It’s supposed to be a really nice buildings. I would guess that it would now house about 35-40 girls.

If Muselk sees this, I’m sorry, but I don’t know anything about Bertha Bailey.

@Muselk Bertha Bailey has about 13 boys - some singles and some doubles. In Abbott so a of a walk to campus but not bad. It has changed between new lowers and new 9th graders for the past few years.
