Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, NH

This is a thread to discuss all things Exeter!

An important conversation for special people…please, aren’t you the least bit embarrassed to be starting another sycophantic thread?

syc·o·phant: a self-seeking, servile flatterer; fawning parasite.

Ouch. A little harsh don’t you think? What’s wrong with a general base for talk of all things Exeter? You should know that Exeter is one of the least pretentious prep schools… Gimme a break.

You’d be hard pressed to find any threads on this site that aren’t Exeter-heavy: Exter this, Exeter that, Harkness this, Harkness that, highest SSATs this, best college outcomes that. It’s just sooooooo tiresome… All of us hoi polloi believe that Exeter is a fine institution, but there’s already so much about the School. I’m sorry for losing my temper a bit, but another “All Exeter-All The Time” thread seems like overkill.

I do realize your point yet I still think that CC would benefit from a “home base” for Exonians and potential applicants.

Uhmm…St. Paul’s and Deerfield have threads like this. I don’t see the problem. In all fairness, we also deserve a home-thread just like those other schools.

Why revive a dead thread when a new one is satisfactory?

On another note, what do you think of the campus?

exeter is about to luck out. my favorite teacher from my high school is going to be teaching at exeter next year. he is fantastic. he is the best teacher i’ve ever had. he teaches latin and greek.

A teacher from St. Mark’s is also going to teach at Exeter, from what I’ve heard.

I was wondering if you play a sport every season will you still have time to take those weekend trips to malls and the nearby cities?

The teacher from my high school is the teacher from St. Mark’s haha

Gabii, Yes, on Sundays most kids that play sports can go to the mall, Boston, the Beach, and the theatre. You could go Sat nights too, after your game is done.

Oh ok, i thought i was never going to be able to go, that sounds fun!

Ummm I don’t know about that

It really depends where your game is and when you get back. The bus for the mall leaves at 5:30, and you have to get tickets ahead of time. It’s like 15 miles away so I don’t think that you’ll walk there. For Boston and the beach, a lot of people do go on Sunday, but Sundays are usually reserved for homework if anything.

vk77, do kids ride their bikes to the beach?

How often do students get together to go to Boston or the beach? Is it just a bunch of students, or do teachers go with?

If you find out your placement in a particualar subject (yeah it’s math), can you ask the department to change to another class?

Hey, just want to ask how much interested Exeter is in admitting multi-sport athletes?
What I do:
Track
Cross Country
Member of my province’s (Yes, I’m Canadian) cycling association
Lacrosse
Badminton

I’m thinking of contacting Exeter’s team coaches as soon as I have sent my application or even before…

I think one of my favorite things about exeter (kinda weird) are the classrooms themselves.
they are SUPER CUTE and homey and fun to be in! just my opinion but they really stood out on my revisit compared to the drab boring classrooms of my current school
