Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, NH

Yeah, the classes do seem really fun

I agree about the classrooms, Gabii! The thing that really sold me on Exeter was the feel of the classrooms…it’s so ‘scholarly’! x3 Very nurturing environment, I felt.

Yes exactly!!

Yea, kids ride their bikes to the beach.

Its a good idea to contact coaches, but not now. Wait until about September, when admissions opens.

Exeter has prom right? for what grades?

I disagree with VK77–we contacted a coach last summer (though not at Exeter) and got a long, detailed friendly response. As a teacher myself, it’s generally easier to answer inquiries when school’s not in full swing.

That said, be patient and wait for a response from a coach who might well be on vacation.

The coaches are all on vacation over the summer, its just some admissions and summer school faculty at Exeter then, so you aren’t going to get a response till September anyway. Just contact a coach before you tour on campus, and schedule an appointment with them while you are there.

Hmmm…you may be right vk, but I’m a teacher, and I still check my work e-mail over the summer when I’m on vacation ( it’s easy to do from home and we continue to get important messages about the upcoming school year), albeit not as often. I’m assuming that what worked at another HADES school would work at Exeter–and we got much better responses in the summer (when the teacher/coach had more time) than during the school year. Doesn’t hurt to try anyway! I wouldn’t assume that just because teachers or coaches are not “on the clock”, they aren’t willing to talk about their schools.

If you do schedule a visit with a coach, though, my advice is to find out his/her schedule before you schedule your interview. We were unable to meet with our son’s potential coach, though we were on school ground for the better part of the morning and afternoon, because of his teaching/coaching/meetings.

vk77- We got plenty of responses from Exeter coaches over the summer. Exeter is their home - rarely are they gone for the entire 12 week break. I agree with classicalmama - they certainly have more time then than in September. Maybe not an immediate answer, of course, but your query certainly won’t sit for months unanswered. By the time September rolls around, many highly organized kids have already contacted schools and set up visit days that work around their current school schedule - like Columbus Weekend or Veteran’s Day. If you wait until September those days may well be booked at the larger schools. I have been through the BS process twice, (and two to go) and there was not one school that we contacted that did not book tours and interviews starting in late summer.

I know this doesn’t only apply to Exeter or anything, but I was just wondering whether or not there was a way to really get a feel for boarding schools without visiting campus. Everybody says that in order to know which one feels better, you gotta go visit campus, but my family can’t afford for me to visit campus or anything. The viewbooks and the websites are obviously all going to make themselves seem like the best, and there’s always the “No, my school is better!” thing on forums like these. I wish someone could record their tour for me! Haha, just kidding. But is there a way to see which one fits you best without going to visit???

Study the websites carefully, nataliet. That should give you a good idea of a school.

bump 10 char

What usually happens around this time for new students?

They wait. haha

LOL 2010, but I want an answer from a current student.

When does our Lionlinks page change?

What changes do you want?

Sorry, I meant when does the Blackboard page change, because it just has information for new students on it.

Exeter had its 129 graduation service today at 10:30. …was v. nice.

Really? That’s so exciting!
RIP, since you are attending Exeter, do you have any idea what this year’s college matriculations are? I cannot seem to find it anywhere on the Internet.

o, im not. It was my sister’s graduation. They’re in the paper, my mom like ANALYZED them lol From my brief glancing there seemed to be that the majority of the class were going to v.v. good shcools. I know lk 13 Harvard, and abt a bajilllion Williams
