Hi everyone,

I have just recently applied for the Phillips Exeter summer program for 2013. I would like to know your opinions on how difficult it is to be accepted, and whether I would have a chance of being a part of the program.
As part of my application I included:
-4.0 GPA (no APs at my school in freshman year)
-the captain of the high school soccer team and my Academy-level club team
-member of the speech and debate club (varsity parliamentary debate as a freshman)
-a troop guide in the Boy Scouts
-tons of service hours from Boy Scouts
-decent essay and recommendations

My biggest worry is the fact that I turned in the application today, which is late into the registration window. Please comment on my chances of being accepted, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, feel free to tell me if I made any technical errors such as posting it one the wrong topic, etc. This is my first time using College Confidential.

Oh, and if you have any information on when the letter of acceptance or rejection (hopefully not!) would be sent after submission of the required forms, please don’t hesitate to share. Thank you.

Places like Exeter want their application rate to be really high, since they have a small acceptance rate. This makes them look like a very rigorous school with only the nation’s top students. Therefore, like most colleges, they tend to look the other way when it comes to late applications. I may be wrong, since I’m comparing Exeter with colleges but Exeter is basically like a college, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Exeter’s admissions office functions the same way as a college. Basically, to answer your question, if Exeter DOES in fact look the other way regarding the date you turned your application in, you’d most likely be accepted. Acceptance rates are typically high at summer programs.

Best of luck,

I think there’s a huge possibility that you’d be accepted. Summer programs at prep schools like Exeter are not typically selective and basically anyone who applied with a passable grade gets accepted eventually. I went to Exeter in 2011 and it was really an amazing experience. You should definitely go if you are accepted. BTW I think you will receive notifications in late March. Feel free to PM me if you have any question about summer at Exeter.
