Hi guys,

I'm applying to Exeter and Andover for prep year. On the tour, I really 'clicked' with Exeter, but some aspects of Andover really stood out too. Any advice on which to choose?

Thanks.

Hi guys,

I'm applying to Exeter and Andover for prep year. On the tour, I really 'clicked' with Exeter, but some aspects of Andover really stood out too. Any advice on which to choose?

Thanks.

i really liked exeter. andover was too "white" for me.

i'm applying to both schools as well. i don't know why but exeter seems a bit more friendly...haha. andover's really awesome too. you can ask xgods_favoritex (i think that was the name...something like that) about andover.

Theres an Andover thread and an Exeter thread. Search for them

Many things are similar at Andover and Exeter, yet there are a few key differences in the way the schools are run and in the student body. It's really personal preference, because both schools are excellent academically. To me, Exeter seemed more formal and conservative at Exeter, and the dress code and saturday classes emphasize this. At Andover, there is no dress code or weekly saturday classes and the students seem to have a little more freedom in making decisions. Personally, I felt like the Andover students were a bit more open and social during my tour and shadow day than the Exeter students, but that could just be me. Although many people view Exeter as more of a math and science school, both schools have amazing programs and resources. For the similarities, both schools have strong academic programs, great facilities, and excellent athletics. The Andover/Exeter athletic contests are intense in every sport, and there is no bigger thrill than to represent your school in front of such huge crowds. So everyone, good luck in your admissions process and you cannot go wrong with choosing either Andover or Exeter for your secondary school education.

ANDOVER!

...this coming from a girl who has 5+ family members who are Andover alums. i scoffed at prep and decided to go public, breaking family tradition. i probably screwed myself over academically, but whatever- it's been fun! :)

bigblue, does Exeter have uniforms?

I can answer that: No. They have a formal dress code. Which is basically, nice slacks or a skirt for girls, collar and tie for boys, no obscenly short or revealing clothing etc.

omg go public schools@!!

so....do you have to wear slacks, even in summer?
and can you wear say.....you know those comfortable basketball shorts?

and do guys HAVE to wear a collar/tie every day?
are they provided for you?

From looking through the brochure, no, you don't have to wear slacks in the summer. You have to wear nice shorts or skirts though. And basketball shorts are not allowed. Phoneix Strike, yes, most of the time... I don't think they are provided for you.

They're not provided for you.
For guys, there you have to wear a tie and collared shirt, but besides that you can wear anything else. (Even jeans, but let's face it; jeans, a tie, and a collared shirt look ugly)

So you can't wear althetic wear of any kind? Like shorts, etc. Even if you're on the basketball team during a game? =P

Are you allowed to wear big sweaters like hoodies?
Sweatpants? Clothes of preference in dorms?

You can not wear althetic wear of any kind in the classrooms or dining hall. You can wear clothes of preference in the dorms as long as they aren't revealing. And yes, you can wear athletic wear in games/practices/etc.

How about outside of class (but not in dorm), like walking around campus?

Public school totally pwns Andover and Exeter!!!!!!!!

^The fact that you used the term "pwns" speaks to the contrary.

How so?

I'd say "speaks to the contrary" is sillier.

I didn't say it was silly. Using terms like "pwns" doesn't exactly make it look like public schools are better, it just makes it look like they produce more kids that spend a lot of time on the internet.
