Philly to Durham trip - advice please!

If you stay in Vienna VA, you can take the Orange line into DC. [Metro - Rail - Maps - Rail/Google Map](http://www.wmata.com/rail/maps/map.cfm?)

It is any easy drive from there to UVA. Since it’s a weekend, parking at the metro stop shouldn’t be a problem. One of my favorite places in the world is Old Town Alexandria which is at the King Street exit on the Blue/Yellow line. Blue line goes to Rosslyn. If you want more info on using metro, PM me. I used to live a few blocks on the Tenleytown/AU stop, went to High school in Northern Virginian and graduated from Georgetown. It’s so easy to visit GW, American U, and Howard using metro. The Georgetown neighborhood voted not to have a stop so a bit more problematic to get to.

Centraleagle: Great - I think you’ll enjoy the Carolina Inn. It will be very serene after DC and it’s walking distance to campus and Franklin Street.

We toured all of these schools with D1. Her favorites were Penn and UNC. Good luck with your trip.

Trip looks great … any interest in also checking out another school while in Philly … Swarthmore? Villanova? etc.

Thank you all so much for your advice! So - since there is an evening Amtrak train to C’ville I am leaning towards taking that and picking up the rental car in Cville on Sunday morning, foregoing altogether a DC car rental. That way we can relax on the train after a busy day without having the stress of driving out of DC.

Haven’t booked a DC hotel yet but thinking of one near Gtown since we arrive Friday evening, meet with Gtown friend for DS overnight, and do 10 am tour in morning. Then dash to GW for 1 pm info/tour. Then to Union Station for either 4pm or 630 pm train. Might just use Priceline for hotel.

Dont’ think we’ll make Swarthmore - went with DS1 and loved it - but DS2 wants larger school.

Does anyone else get a sick feeling in their stomach when adding up the costs of these college trips?! I truly enjoy them and the time spent with family, but my oh my it all adds up!
