Philosophy 25B before 25A?

For the philosophy major prerequisites, is it necessary to take Ancient Philosophy 25A before Modern Philosophy 25B, or can it be taken before?

They only offer it in a fall-spring order, so I'm kind of in a bind for fulfilling the prereqs as fast as possible. My other option would be to do the other requirement 12A next semester and wait till next year to do the 25 series. Any advice?

You can take 25B before 25A, no real problem. Ideally you'd take 25A first, since the philosophers of 25B do make reference to Plato/Aristotle, but you can do 25B without taking 25A first. I would go ahead and take 25B. If you have some free time, you can read up on Plato and Aristotle a bit to get you ready, but I wouldn't be too concerned.

The difficulty in taking 12A first is that it really is a very technical course, sort of mathematical, and very different from much of philosophy. 25B is actually a better introduction to philosophy, I think, and will help you see if you are interested in pursuing it as a major. You can hate 12A and still love philosophy, I can't imagine you hating 25B and still loving philosophy.

Two of my roommates from last year took 25B last semester but didn't take 25A

Should you be interested in Ancient Philosophy, or wish to take it before Modern, you can always enroll in Classics C36, which is cross-listed with Philosophy 25A.

Nevermind. Not offered.

No absolutely not. Makes no difference at all. Take 25B, no need to know anything from 25A for a good philosophical understanding. philosophy in a historical timeline has done nothing for me.
