Philosophy at GMU

I just applied to GMU yesterday, but I still haven't seen anything really specific about this from a student:

How is the philosophy/ethics program at GMU?
I would be majoring in it, so, obviously, I want to know.

And I heard that it's a commuter school (as other threads here have said).
Does this mean if you live on campus (and are 17), you're going to be pretty bored?

Thanks

Anyone who knows- not just a student - please reply

Hi...I visited GMU over a weekend in November and there were a lot of students on campus. I asked students if everyone cleared out over the weekends and the answer was no. I am an athlete so my weekends will be pretty busy, but I would still like to know there will be others staying. I also was told there are organized activities during the weekends such as, trips to DC, concerts, etc. GMU used to be a commuter college, but I think it has changed over the last few years.

thanks!

im really glad - i wanted a residential campus.

It will change even more over the next few years. I was chatting up the university planners at a meeting last month, and they were really enthusiastic about the new "northeast sector" construction. Apparently, it will be a real residential village with shops and stuff. If it works out as planned, it will change the character of the campus.

To the OP: Sorry. Don't know nothin' about philosophy.

that's awesome...

how cute sounding!

Construction has already started and slated to be finished Fall 2007. It looks like a great housing complex with restaurants and shops (American Eagle, A&F, shops geared toward college kids) on the first two floors and housing above. Freshman are housed in a "village" together. I was very impressed with the campus and the academics. State of the art labs, computer technology, performing arts, fitness complex and an awesome pool. The grounds are beautiful, but you do have to overlook the construction. There is a lot of it going on.

As far as Philosophy, I will probably be attending GMU next year and I am very interested in this program as well. Maybe ill see you there. Commuter school? There are 26000 students, i dont think you will even notice.
