What are the opportunities/jobs available for philosophy majors? Is it a good subject to major in (from an employer's perspective)? Would combining Philosophy with another subject, such as Economics, be helpful?

Would it be possible to earn a B.S. in calculus heavy economics with a minor in philosophy at a school like Berkeley or Northwestern? What would be the job opportunities for that major/minor? Thanks :)

nothing and everything. it varies so much, nobody can really tell you. you could end up being a mcdonald's worker, or a successful playwright. it depends on the person. i can def. tell you that it's very difficult right after graduation though to find the job you like. i think that it's best to have an idea of what you want to do instead of majoring in something and seeing what you can do with it.

Yes. And if done well, that could take you places.

Son is a double major at Berkeley, Philosophy and Math. Of course, he has no idea what he will do with it.

Bec5656, I think it's really great that your son is majoring in those subjects. Many people don't realize it, but they have close ties. For example, I'm taking a logic course offered through my school's philosophy department because I need to know the material for a set theory course I'll eventually take through the math department. The ability to make a valid and well articulated argument is equally applicable to both disciplines. To me, they are the purest areas of human inquiry. I'm a math major, but unfortunately my school doesn't allow double majors. :( Kudos to your son.
