I'm going to take a few philosophy courses next year, and I was wondering if it is necessary to take the introductory philosophy courses (1000 level courses) before I actually jump to the 2000 level courses. For instance, intro to philosophy is available to me, but it doesn't fit into my current schedule, while Ancient Philosophy(2200), on the other hand, does.

While I understand that many of the 3000 level courses require pre-req's, would I be missing out on a great deal of information if I dived straight into the 2000 level courses?

Not at all. Enjoy.

Nope! Take whatever appeals to you most!

I’ve done a lot of philosophy reading/research and I can honestly say that you dont need the entry level courses for most classes, you end up going over the basics that you need for any specific class during that class anyways.

Obviously if you want to take the 5000 level course for Ancient Philosophy and there’s a 2 or 3000 level course under it thats a prequisite, that’s probably going to be a different issue.

Also, if you’re considering taking Epistemology I suggest you only do so after taking a few other philosophy classes.

Have fun! Philosophy = kick a*** =D

Thanks folks, look forward to the courses : )
