Philosophy

How is the NYU UNDERGRAD program in Philosophy, I know the graduate program is ranked #1, so I'm wondering how much overlap there is in terms of the professors teaching graduate and undergraduate courses.

Also, is Philosophy often part of a double major (let's say I'm not doing prelaw)? and if I end up in LSP how accessible would philosophy classes be and when...

any current philosophy majors, your input would be nice...

and OH MY GOD A THREAD NOT ABOUT ADMISSIONS DECISIONS!

NYU has a strong philosophy program, but undergrad majors aren’t really ranked the way grad majors are, so I can’t give you a statistic. Most departments at NYU have professors who teach both undergrad and grad classes, so i’m sure there will be be some overlap. I think it’s safe to assume that if the grad program is #1, then the undergrad program must be fairly strong.

Philosophy has very few requirements (I think 9-10) so it would be easy to double major, especially with a related field (like Politics or History). Google “NYU Undergrad Philosophy” to see all the degree requirements and classes.

As for LSP, it would mean 6 required classes freshmen year, leaving you with 2 electives, which can be whatever you feel like. I think Philosophy is a good major to do lsp with since liberal studies is basically a humanities program, and classes like Social Foundations I and II focus on ancient Greek and Roman philosophers, and Cultural Foundations focuses on the writings of many philosophers as well. LSP is also heavy on reading, especially old classical works, and that’s good preparation for a Philosophy major imo.

i’m not a philosophy major so I can’t give you any personal input.
