Phone # in dorm rooms

I will be living in Hamerschlag House this fall. I wonder whether the landline in my dorm will be a direct dial number or an extension number. Thanks!

… Our dorms offer land lines? I’ve never heard of such a thing before.

Yes, it also offers free campus and local calling.

You have to buy some kind of connector/converter to plug into the wall before you can connect your phone line, it is not the standard RJ11 phone jack. I was told the student can purchase it in the campus bookstore.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think you get an extension.

My D used this her freshman year for two purposes:

a) she had a fax line…and that was very convenient for sending stuff rather than scan/pdf mode for things she had to sign and the PDF shrunk the signature

b) a good friend from hs took a gap year in europe…D’s cell phone would have been expensive to phone the friend, skype wasn’t reliable-- friend didn’t have a fast connection…so the ATT long distance service on that phone was great.

She didn’t need the line last year I guess, cause never got around to it…
