I am applying to a number of boarding schools, but only doing one campus tour and interview at Concord Academy and then phone interview for all the other schools.

My advice is that you have to be confident and TELL THE TRUTH AND DONT BE MODEST. As for phone interview, I guess just try to somewhat plan out what to say. When I did my interview at Choate, I was so nervous that I think I said alot things wrong, and I’m scared that they will think I was lying but I was just nervous. Please try not to make the same mistake

Here is my opinnion about phone interviews, for what it is worth: Don’t do them.

Have an on-campus interview. If you can’t, then have a personal interview with an alum or some other approved interviewer off-campus. If you can’t, then you must have a phone interview, but make sure that you live out of the country and there are no school reps within 300 miles of you.

If you live in the US of A and can’t make the effort to visit the school or meet face-to-face with a school rep off-campus, I doubt the school will make much effort to accept you into its hallowed halls, IMHO.

Am I sure? No. Is it true? Don’t know. My views expressed about telephone interviews are just opinions based upon my past experience and general knowledge. You asked. I answered. Take it or leave it. Still, if you interview by phone, you had better have a very good reason for such an interview…IMHO. Why take the time to apply to a school if you won’t take the time to visit that school, to the extent possible?
