Which do people usually use? How many free minutes do people usually need? AT&T or Verizon? I'm an international, so I probably need to pay a deposit. I'm going to MA.

I don’t know how it works where you come from, but there’s no deposit here. You just pay the subsidized price of the phone and the first monthly fee.

As for which carrier to choose, ask people at your college which one gets the best reception on campus.

I’m going to MA. AT&T and Verizon have the best reception on campus. I’m wondering whether to get the Nation Basic or Nation Select, or the Family Plans.

For MA, Verizon or AT&T will do. Verizon will get you service almost ANYWHERE. But AT&T does have roll over minutes so you might want to look into that if you are needing more minutes.

AT&T and Verizon plans (at least the cheapest individual ones) cost about the same per month. ($39.99)

But what plans do people usually get?

Well I assume you’re the only one using the phone right? On Verizon, get the Individual Nation Basic. It is the most basic one with voice only I believe.

And if you want texting, add a texting plan. (I think texting is a must personally. I don’t know how adults can live without texting)

Note Don’t get the Family plan if you are only getting the phone for yourself.

My mum pays my bill and I don’t think I have any minute limits… if I do I never paid attention to them lol.

Can’t you get a family plan with a couple of classmates?

I’m going with T-mobile and I’m going to be in boston, MA

I’m going with T-mobile and I’m going to be in boston, MA

“Can’t you get a family plan with a couple of classmates?”

Bad idea. Do not do anything with other people where paying a monthly bill is involved unless its an apartment thing and you have no choice.

Just go to the different sites, look at the plans and pick the one that has the stuff you want and the price you are willing to pay.

Agreed. Don’t get into a contract with classmates. Real issues can arise from that. Don’t cheap out with a family plan. If they all ditch you, you’ll be stuck with all of the lines and cancelling will end up costing you a lot more.
