Is it true we have to bring our own plug-in phone - and tnen get "free" (part of room and board) calls- local and long distance? Why? Doesn't everyone use cells - or is this something we should take advantage of as somehow we are paying anyway?

yes, LD is free from your dorm as it's VoIP. But, you may not necesarily have to bring a handset from home -- phonesets come with the rooms in Choates, one of the main Frosh dorms.

The campus has pc terminals literally everywhere, so 'blitzmail' (e-mail) is much more common than cell use to communicate on campus.

Thx!!(10 characters0

Most students do use their cell phones to call home, etc... but it is still a good idea to have a room phone. You can buy an inexpensive cordless phone for $20. It's just more convenient if you're in the room sometimes.

You will very rarely if ever need your room phone. Most of your communication with other people will be over blitz. And then cell phones play a part. Room phones are a nice convenience, but you won't be using it much. I'm pretty sure most, if not all, rooms come with a phone. Either way though, they will let you know for sure what you will have when you get your housing assignment later in the summer.

I agree with Dartmom especially because some dorms (ex. the River)
have horrible reception indoors. It will be better to have a land line.
My D hasn't had a room yet on campus that came with its own phone.
Just buy a $20 to be on the safe side.

Thanks all!
