does anyone know how much a phone line in a dorm costs per month?

To be honest, I think a cheap cellphone plan is really the best idea. My D did not know a single person in her dorm who had a landline. Everyone had cell phones.

FSU does not provide local/long distance service. There are lines, but the local phone company activates the line and provides the service. Century Link is one company that provides service, and I think it starts around $40-45 a month for unlimited local and long distance.

If you don’t have a cell phone, consider using SKYPE or other VOIP calling. The wired internet in the dorms is great for voice over internet. Magic Jack really does work also. For $19.95 a year you get a phone number, voicemail, and just about everything you need using the internet to place calls. We traveled out of the US, and took a Magic Jack with us and it was great. We could call anyone anywhere, and did not have to have the other person on the computer at the time to get the call like using SKYPE. It was way less expensive than using our phone overseas.

Yes, I agree with sunnyflorida and highly suggest a cell phone or a VOIP type calling system.

TBH, I haven’t seen anyone use a landline other than my RA who just had the phone in his room for “RA” type calls haha.

Consider getting a cheap cellphone or a GoPhone or something of that sort. Good luck!

alright thanks
I just need a phone so I can call my best friend in North Carolina because she doesn’t have internet and we’re not going to send letters lol. Anyway I think I found cheap cell phone service for $45 a month for unlimited talk, text, and web. It’s called Straight Talk. It’s prepaid but w/e at least there’s no two year contract haha

If you want some FREE alternatives (if you only need to call like one or two people, PM me and I’ll send you some links)

I picked up Straight Talk nearly a month ago. I like it so far!

^^ Yea, I’m interested in knowing how well the Straight Talk service works in Tally. I think it uses the Verizon network, and you pay as you go with no contract.

satscholar, thanks but no thanks. I really think I’ll just go with the $45/month. It’s really not a bad price for unlimited everything. I think I’ll be missing all my friends back home after I move lol

Does anyone know how the cell phone service is in Tally for tmobile or at&t

Works perfectly fine for AT&T.

I had tmobile my freshman year, and the service is horrible in the dorms, no reception inside of wildwood or Degraff I called everyday to complain and they said they couldnt do anything about it…

att and verizon have best reception.

I suggest a cellphone. We used Sprint for years then switched to Verizon. Verizon has better coverage and is excellent.

att is great except in the stadium on gameday.

^You’re not supposed to be talking on a cell phone in the stadium, you should be praying at football games.

I should have known sunny would have an iPhone. Lots of apps for her work.
