Dd will be applying to art schools this fall. SVA is one of her top choices. However, she has been wondering lately how likely she will be to land a job with a photo degree and if she will forever be a "starving artist". Can anyone give me any information, from personal experience or knowledge, on this?

One more unrelated question about SVA - is it difficult to get accepted?

Surely there is someone who knows something about SVA and/or photo major graduates.
PLease even send me somewhere that can help us find answers.

Hello. I don't know to much about the phot department, however, my best friend attends, assuming your talking about School Of Visual Arts in NY. I'm trying to apply as a Spring transfer for film. It's not difficult to be admitted she told me. They accept like 71% of there applicants and the average GPA is 3.0, however, the portfolio is also HEAVILY weighted since it's a visual arts school.

SVA and Parsons are both highly recommended in some quarters for photo and I will be applying to both. As far as job prospects, it's a competitive scene out there, that may be more the "not what you know, but who you know" file. In that case, I would suggest to make as many connections as possible and that is wherever she decides to go.
