Some of my schools requested photos and some did not....and they often write that you can send an optional photo in small print somewhere, I nearly missed it on 1 app.

But for Swarthmore.....no personal photo (like a senior photo), correct?

I did not see that on any of the schools I applied to. I definitely wouldn’t send one to Swarthmore (not that it matters now anyways, the deadline has passed).

I seriously doubt Swarthmore would be concerned with a photo. Actually, consider it is Swarthmore, I wouldn’t doubt that they would reject you if you were pretty, to be entirely frank. Swarthmore is famous for tsk-tsk-ing those sorts of things, so I have high, high doubts that they had a slot for one, and I would highly recommend against sending one.

no, i won’t send one for certain, i was just checking. i wouldn’t consider sending unless they’d asked.

pomona has an optional photo (to humanize the process), and until a few years ago brown did, too.

i have a lot of respect for pomona, probably one of my fav LACs, and if a school of their calibre and philosophy is ok with it, i am comfortable, too. i trust them. and i would also trust swat or a similar school that would request one.

my mom applied to colleges 25 or so years ago, and photos were pretty typical then. everyone sent in their formal yearbook headshots. and back then, brown made you handwrite your essays and create your own activity charts…no typing on the personal parts of the app. handwritten only. can you imagine if we had to do that now?

i think people could even have a personal reaction/impression based on someone’s handwriting, just like you could with a photo.
