Photography as an EC?

If I pursue photography but don't win any competitions or anything with it, does it still count as an EC? I may sell a picture or two in the future to a private buyer, but that's about it.

Yes, describe what you do with your photography. For example, do you take photos for a non-profit or other organization? Do you have a special talent for nature photography? Be creative with your description.

It’s an EC, but it’s not really a good one unless you actually develop (no pun intended) some skills…otherwise they don’t know if you take it seriously or if you’re just some kid with a camera. You might take a photography class at a local college or something.

JCCsMom, I don’t really take photographs for any organizations or anything. It’s more personal, and I’m more of a nature/landscape photographer than anything. I started fairly recently, but I plan to work at it until I’m good. I have a cousin who picked it up in about a year and is now taking amazing shots and has even sold some of his work, and I expect similar results. However, by the time I get good, it’ll be too late to enter competitions and whatnot. How would I show that I’m actually good and not just a kid with a camera?

Photography supplement if you’re really good, but other than that I’m not sure. Start a photography club at your school? (Of course that wouldn’t have anything to do with being good at photography, but it would make it more than just a hobby.)

halcyonheather, does this count as “good”?

Love the picture, where did you take that?

Don’t quote me on this, but I think arts supplements are evaluated by people from the art department and not the regular admissions people. So it’s not just about whether it looks pretty to regular people (which it does)…it has to look good to people who know what they’re doing, and I don’t.
If you don’t submit an arts supplement, it doesn’t really matter if you’re bad or good, but in that case I’d recommend trying to make the activity a little more “formal” by taking a class or starting a club or entering a competition or something like that.

Apandia, it was in upstate NY during a hiking trip.

Halcyon, I see. I’ll try to see what I can do to make it more official, then.

Thanks!
