Photography/Graphic Design/Industrial Design Programs?

From what I see most of the programs in the "what programs look good for college" thread are heavily focused on mathematics and science. Unfortunately, I'm not particularly interested in pursuing a career in those fields, and I'm thinking of majoring in business and one of the aforementioned arts.

I'm currently a high school sophomore but I'm also interested in programs for the Junior>Senior summer so I can apply next year.

Basically my question is this: what are the most prestigious photography/graphic design/industrial design summer programs?

Thanks!

I found lots of these programs online, but I can’t decide which are prestigious and which are not. Any suggestions?

Bump, I really want to know before the deadlines are over, and I hardly have any extracurricular activities right now.

Thanks!

The very best summer arts programs are EXTREMELY work-intensive, so if you’re just interested in “prestige” or “what looks good for college admissions” and are not absolutely passionate about art/design, you will not enjoy the experience and you probably won’t do well gradewise either.

Nope, I’m genuinely interested in graphic design or industrial design and want to major in either along with business. I’m doing freelance graphic design, and have taken up photography, purchasing a Nikon SLR and lens with the money I made from freelancing.

Any suggestions on art summer programs, worried_mom? Thanks in advance!

Bump. Carnegie Mellon has a program but it seems like a pay-to-get-in type.

SVA, Pratt, RISD, MICA… all the major art schools have good summer programs, and they’ll all have graphic design and photography, and some of them probably have industrial design too.

There isn’t much “prestige” in the summer programs world. The best idea is to use the summer as a trial for a major you’re interested in instead of leeway into a school with that major. Any class you take in the summer will count on your application but where you take it won’t make that big a difference.
