JRH, perhaps they have not met Ragin yet? :D

Suspect your right Jamzmom, I don't remember any smiles till near the end of indoc!

You may see more smiles soon. If I remember right, this may be one of the days they took them out for the boat rides! (See last years Indoc photos http://www.usmmaparents.org/usmmaparents/indoc_06/indoc_06_48.htm) This is the part that my daughter loved about Indoc! And if the heat keeps up, they should be more comfortable on the water.

Put on your glasses! Time to obsess....Day 5 is UP!

Thanks WYTL for all your efforts. It is great to see the groups.

Thanks also for the post on USMMA. I saw some good pics of my son. No broken bones or bandages.....:) Momma is happy!

As a new KP parent what are the arm bands with paper in them and also what are the white strings that hang on their belt for?

Good question oldairforce..

Can someone get message to these guys to use some sunscreen. Some of those sunburns don't look good. :(

Sick chits guys. Some of the kids have already pulled something they probably didn't want to. :( They'll be ok.

The white ropes are for water. Each knot represents a canteen of water consumed! So the paper arm bands are for sick bay?

yep, the piece of paper within the armband is known as a 'sick chit' It's basically a piece of paper from the doc stating what the candidate is not allowed to do in order to get better from whatever injury they sustained. Say for example, someone sprained their ankle (fairly common) they would have a chit that says "no running, etc".

As an aside I like the change to the armbands, candidates used to have to pin them on their shirts underneath their nametag.

One of the very few times son has ever posted - concerned sick chits. He posted this last summer before he went to sea the first time. Why won't my quote thingee work? Hmmmph. Oh well -

"Sick chits?
Come on now -- you're scaring these poor parents.

The sick chit for a lot of kids is legit -- they didn't come to INDOC flexible or as in shape as they thought they were.

The kids who 'ride' sick chits will probably have a hard time when it comes to fitting in with the rest of their company mates who were not on a sick chit during indoc. That DOES NOT mean that they're not going to fit in though. We had a guy in my company last year who everyone felt 'rode' a sick chit. But he turned out to be a really good guy that everyone got along with. He just wasn't able to keep up with us in PT -- that's all that meant.

And for those kids who -are- actually hurt -- or 'broken' as the DIs like to say. They're not 'milking' it. In fact, a good majority of them are EMBARRESSED and WANT to participate in company events. They feel they're letting their company mates down. I know I did when I was on sick chit for one day during the 5k run last year -- I even ran part of it until I got caught by the EMT who refused to let me run anymore. :D

And parents -- if your kid is 'broken' -- don't worry too much about it. I know you're on pins and needles about your poor baby being hurt -- but I promise that they are in really good care with the infirmary. The ladies in Patten are as nice and sweet as they can be. They're in -good hands.-"

Yes indeed! I had heart palpitations when I received a call from KP nurse yesterday. Thank God it was just needed paperwork. Beyond business, we were chatting (I was interrogating the poor woman) and she was amazing - sweet, patient, understanding and empathetic. She said "don't worry, we'll take good care of him." It was evident that she really cared about the kids. Every parent should have such an experience - it made me feel so much better.

At least you know your boy's okay! That's a good thing. I just got an email from my son's visa card that says he bought something in the Uniform & Varsity shop, so I know mine is at least walking LOL. :p

Day 6 is now posted on the parents' page.

Hmmm... Friday night 7/13 at 9:35 pm. Something tells me they're just not going to post pics from Day 7 (7/12/2007) today...

Besides, I have to go to the computer store... I've worn the lettering off my "F5-refresh" key.

suzannegra -- lol re: your kid's VISA purchase. Our kid has a VISA too, that I scour weekly on-line to see what he was up to the past weekend...hmmm..Long Island Railroad, Movie in Manhattan, dinner....also been known to log onto myspace.com just to make sure he's alive and he when he last posted (even though he won't accept me as a "Friend" or IM me) I can still see when he last posted

OK I must confess that I look on candidates bank account today to see if there was any activity...closest think I thought I could get to a letter. Guess what no activity on credit/bank card. No news yet.

I may be losing track, but isn't this Day 3 of no indoc photos? Perhaps we've been spoiled, but this is a double dose of WITHDRAWAL!

MMAMom2011....it is day 3 and thats just not fair. They tease us with wonderful daily uploads(excluding last weekend) and then cut us off. I am going to go nuts.

Yes. Day 3.
I'm having a rough time.

And I wish they'd just let us subscribe or log our email to be notified when the pictures are posted (or the webpage is changed).

Bet it would save a lot of useless hits on their webserver pages.

And no mail either today. Hope things are OK.
