I drove up 85 that way from Atlanta to what was supposed the best area to see it. Grabbed pics and had to scramble back to take pics of daughter’s variety volleyball match.
We’ll probably go to see the annular eclipse in October 2023 too, since it’s relatively close. This was what we saw in 2012
But no more transits of Venus unfortunately…
We were in Georgetown, SC, so not too far from you.
It was an interesting day. We planned an entire vacation around it.
We were visiting my son in NC for the occasion and drove in/out for the day. It was fun. While we were waiting, since we arrived very early, we played Terraforming Mars on a picnic table. So many people walking by asked us about the game that we should have asked the manufacturer for a commission on sales!
“When you’re going to San Francisco
Be sure to take some Clorox wipes in your bag
If you’re going to San Francisco…”
Hmmm. Didn’t load. I’ll try again.
We aren’t going anywhere these days- if 50% of the family can get Covid in the last week, we aren’t taking chances with the other half of us going on into the world. Luckily nature brought a show to my driveway this evening to entertain me. It came with a much needed rain shower too.
Sorry about the COVID in the family! Hoping the cases are mild.
Just got back from my first road trip in a long time. Had to make a reservation in advance to enter the Rocky Mountain National Park, but the park wasn’t crowded due to the fact that the schools have started and the summer vacations are winding down. I was pleasantly surprised to see some female Bighorns and their ewes given the August heat.
Those are gorgeous!
Thank you ~~
One thing I truly appreciate about these high elevation states is the bluest sky with dramatic white clouds… The air quality is excellent, too, though having to desperately suck air while climbing up the “Stairway to Heaven” at 12,000 ft above sea level wasn’t all that fun…
Back when DH was in grad school we used to hike in the Sierras every summer. Your photos reminded me of that, but oof I remember hiking at 10,000 feet was so much harder than hiking at sea level. Not to mention I’d have a wicked headache the first day or two.
