@kelsmom — in the photo, eyes appear dark, but color could be “off.”

They’re all over in my stomping grounds in Canada too (Ontario, south of Ottawa). It’s where I fell in love with them. My family has often (jokingly) contemplated capturing some and relocating them to where we live, though I’ve heard they are more destructive than their gray counterparts. They’re still gorgeous.

There are resident foxes roaming around Princeton campus, too. Apparently, they make their home there. Unlike the students, they get free dorm food all year round…

As an aside, Ann Arbor has so many squirrels that students formed a Squirrel Club to feed them. (I believe some may have been admitted.) One of the funniest things I’ve ever read on CC is the parent who posted on the “Colleges your child crossed off the list after visiting…” thread that her child ruled out U-M because of the squirrels. Someone even started a thread on the topic. I’m not sure I’d want one climbing up my leg, but they sure are cute.

We have a couple of chipmunks at our cabin who visit me every day for handouts to build up their winter stores:

Oberlin has an albino white squirrel as their mascot. And real ones in the community.

Thanks, TiggerDad! Good to know as we love the Rockies and hope to visit often.

Haha! That was my daughter! Michigan off the list after the enormous squirrels!

Haha! I live near UM, and I have little squirrels, big squirrels, black squirrels, Fox squirrels, all kinds of squirrels. But my son lives close to MSU … guess the white squirrel is a Spartan fan.

I call them tree rats. I strongly dislike them. They got into my house after a hurricane and ate all the labels off cans in pantry and broke into more (I had to throw out almost everything.). They dug a hole in kitchen cabinet. We couldn’t walk into the kitchen in the dark but to hear them scurrying around or step on them. My pest control guy was kept quite busy.

I have never seen them as “cute” since then, which was in 2005.

bookworm - yikes!!!

No kidding! They are nasty pests.

I’ve never liked small, furry things and am always concerned about the possibility they could harbor bubonic plague or Lyme disease fleas. We are glad we only have to deal with roaches and ants. Those are more than enough.

We don’t like the ground squirrels near our coast since they erode the cliffs. Whenever we are walking and see tourists feeding them we ask them to please stop.

Should have installed a doggie door; would’ve been a lot cheaper.

Closing the chimney would have been an even more affordable option.

Took this 18 second video this morning and wish I hadn’t stopped it after the “crash” because Doc looked so sheepish with trying to be inconspicuous afterward. It was really cute. At the time, my brain just went to, “well I’m not going to use that video.” Now it’s one I’ve sent to a fair number of friends/relatives. :sunglasses: Doc is perfectly fine BTW. Time will tell if he’s learned to watch where he’s going when he picks up speed…

I think my old brain figured it out… wish it were as good at remembering technology as my youngsters are! The video can be clicked on to start.
