D22 and I are currently in Indonesia. I love these “fire extinguisher” murals in Jakarta airport.

A couple of days ago, D22 and I visited the home of the founder of Batik Keris (sells Indonesian clothing) in Solo, Indonesia. This photo made me think of the Great Gatsby - it’s fascinating that American fashion made it to a remote city in central Java in the 1920s!

I wish “we” were more creative!

On this trip, D22 has been folding origami cranes whenever she can (in cafes, on long car rides, etc.). The goal is to complete 500 cranes to give (strung together) to my cousin’s daughter (same age as D22), who is scheduled to undergo a liver transplant later this summer. In Japan, 1000 cranes are often given to a person who is seriously ill as a gesture to wish for their recovery but LostWife thought that was unrealistic (given time constraint) so we’ve settled for 500.

With the help of people we’ve met along the way, we’re currently at around 300. Four days to go before we see my cousin’s daughter. Fingers crossed we will reach our goal!

Just back from a bed and breakfast that also serves as an alpaca rescue farm…

Best case they seemed indifferent to us humans, worst case they just stared and judged us😀

The alpaca in your last pic looks a little strange… :grinning:

I fed him a little carrot when we first got there. From that point on “Chorizo” stayed within my shadow. Very cute and extremely smart.

The butterflies here are so big and vibrant and they’re always dancing around our yard, and I am fully in love with the sky (last pics of that though, I promise). I’ve also become pretty darn good with hair dye. Took my daughter from blue to purple for her bday tomorrow.

Sign at our local Dunkin’ makes me wonder if they are trying to limit service.

However you interpret it, the sign makes no sense as you can’t go straight, only right or left:

Sky pics are OK with me :).
How old is your daughter? Was it hard for her to make the move, guessing she’s a teen?

She turns 21 tomorrow, actually. My younger is 18. They’ve moved over a dozen times, so it’s old hat for them by now.

WOW, a BIG day. Will you buy her a drink :wine_glass:? Are either/both in/going to college? Do you have to declare one state for residency, or do they get in-state wherever you are?

I will be taking her to the liquor store tomorrow to pick something to drink with her dad tomorrow evening. It’s less novel to her because she could legally drink all last school year in England, but my husband is excited so we will do the ritual. Ha. They both go to college, and they both go to private school, so residency is a non-issue, but they get residency wherever we live at the time, wherever we lived when they started college (if it was in that state that they started), and also our home state of record. To keep the thread on track, here is the blue it was before last night.

Catching up on the photos everyone has posted has me itching to get traveling again… We have small trips planned in Aug (Cuyahoga - new for us, close to where oldest moved), Sept (St Lawrence River to an old haunt), and Puerto Rico for Feb/March (exploring and visiting youngest + wife). I’d love to just pack a Carry On and wander the planet.

Our train trip back in June was awesome for FIL - he loved it and still talks about it, super glad he chose to go. He was glued to the window of the train for all of daylight hours, plains, mountains, coast - everything. He had never been west of the Mississippi before. Here he was with H at the Grand Canyon.

ps He made the cane in his hand from a piece of wood he found in the woods eons ago. It was a talking point everywhere we went.
