Physical Science in Middlebury

Hi

I am still very much excited to know that I am accepted to Midd. and looking forward to see you all in this fall.

With this being said, I have a question. I am aware that there are several threads that posed similar questions as mine, but most of those addressed 'Natural Science' in general, not specific branches of it.

My intended major is physics. Before you say 'you have picked a wrong school', please let me finish.

As I looked through the course catalog of Middlebury, I must say I was under the impression that the physics program at Middlebury is somewhat weaker than other schools that I have been so far accepted. Yes, considering that most of schools that I got into are institutes of technology, it will be unwise to compare physical science programs at Middlebury to those of institutes of technology. I am not expecting physics program that is as intensive as that of MIT (which was my dream school), but I do expect something that is comparable to it.

So, my question is:
Will Middlebury provide me such an option? Will it prepare me well for graduate schools such as Caltech or MIT?

it absolutely will…

the physics and astronomy departments have GREAT professors, if not the depth of course selection that a larger school or harvey mudd-type LAC would have. bi hall is totally beautiful and has state of the art facilities (to which youll have full access for independent research) and you’ll benefit from close, day to day interaction with the professors of your choice (talk about preparation for grad school…i.e. you’ll get wonderful rec letters from people with connections to specific programs…)

so i cant speak to the academics themselves in terms of preparation, as ive only taken two intro courses ive taken (though mind you both were great), but i know the context is as good as any in terms of preparation.

Hello jnj0925, congratulations on your acceptance!

Do you mind if I ask, did you get the course catalog in the mail with the acceptance?
As I am international, I have been anxiously awaiting my acceptance in the mail.

Well, this maybe true for me. I got my fat envelope yesterday, which is two days after the decisions are released. Maybe because I live very close to Middlebury. You go to Middlebury Website to find what courses they offer 2011 Fall. They also show you courses that had been previously offered at Middlebury. Here is the link : [Academics | Middlebury](Academics | Middlebury College)

And this is pdf version which you can download (but its 2010!)

Thanks a lot for your helpful response jnj0925! :)
